It seems that Xiaomi is diligently working on a new generation of smartphones from Redmi. The new Redmi K50 series should be unveiled before February next year.

The preparations are in full swing

As far back as late June, the CEO of Redmi Lu Weibing claimed that work on the new Redmi K50 series is already underway, and even shared a poll on the social network Weibo about what users would welcome as innovations. Users would want faster charging speeds and more memory capacity.

Also, according to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi is diligently working on new models from the Redmi K50 series. Then a derived model could make it to Europe—POCO F4, or possibly as Xiaomi Mi 12i. We’re writing this only based on experience from this year.

Even leaks have revealed that the Redmi K50 series will come before the spring festival in China, in other words Chinese New Year—which means we should see it before 1. February 2022. Even though we still have a little over 6 months to go, these leaks could pan out.

What can we expect?

We expect that the Redmi K50 series will have at least three models: Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and Redmi K50 Pro Plus. The models should differ from each other in the processors used and also in the different cameras.

As for the processor, the spotlight should be on Qualcomm’s chips—specifically, it’s said to be the Snapdragon 895 types, which haven’t been announced yet. That should happen by the end of this year. We might also see the implementation of wireless charging. That’s a technology that most flagship devices only have.

The Redmi K50 series should be a strong contender in the mid-range. However, it may also be challenged by models from Xiaomi, the parent company, or POCO, the subsidiary. Other strong players include OnePlus and Realme. How this battle turns out, we’ll find out in the coming months.
