REDMI Note 17 Pro vs Pro Max is this year’s most common question we get in the group. Both use a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity you’d have looked for a year ago more in a power bank. And from the outside, they look almost identical. Pro Max costs €80 to €120 more depending on the store, and most people buy it for one number: 10 000 mAh.
That’s why we went through more than thirty reviews from ten European countries. Priority went to editors who tested both models using the same methodology. These are GSMArena, the German Chip, Computerbild, Smartzone, and Root-Nation.
Only with them can you see the real difference, because they don’t mix different methodologies. The rest is supplemented with official specs from mi.com and data from the European energy label registry EPREL. In Europe, you can’t officially buy the 10 000 mAh version. So we took its results from tests in India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Russia.

Beware the version: You can’t buy 10 000 mAh in a Slovak store
First, the most important thing. The Pro Max sold in Europe, the UK, and Australia has a 9,210 mAh battery. The 10,000 mAh global version, sold in Asia and coming to us through Chinese stores—for example, via our partner Gshopper—uses the larger cell. Xiaomi states the same difference on its Czech and global pages. We already covered that the European version is cut down when it was announced.
Xiaomi Planet shopping tip: GShopper has now launched direct bank transfer payments, so you can save another 4.5 % off the product price! Compared to card / Google Pay payment, you can get this product much cheaper. We described the full bank transfer payment process in our article.

In Europe and the global version, the Note 17 Pro has the same 8,340 mAh capacity. Only China got the bigger 9,000 mAh cell. In the global versions, both models share 1,660 mAh. For us it’s just 870 mAh, so the Pro Max’s battery is only 10% larger. Xiaomi didn’t explain the reason. Most likely, it’s rules for air and road shipping of lithium cells that tighten conditions starting from 20 Wh per cell. However, this hasn’t been confirmed.
The European and global versions differ in other respects too. The global version has IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K protection, while the European one (per mi.com/cz) only has IP66/IP68. The global Pro Max weighs 229.5 g, the European one 225.1 g. The European package doesn’t include a charger. The global package does; for the Pro Max, it’s 100 W.

Battery: How much the Pro Max really adds
The official figure comes from the European EPREL energy label register. Xiaomi declares battery life of 72 hours for the Pro and 79 hours for the Pro Max on a single charge. The 10% difference matches the capacity difference exactly. Both have energy class B and a battery certified for 1,000 cycles.
Independent tests show a slightly bigger lead. GSMArena measured the Pro Max at 22:31 h and the Pro 17:31 h—that’s 5 hours and 28% more. The German Chip got 28:04 h on LTE surfing compared to 24:36 h—a difference of 3.5 hours. Root-Nation measured almost 28 hours in PCMark and almost 22 hours. In tests, the Pro Max lasts longer than you’d expect from capacity alone. The newer chip is likely also more power-efficient.

With normal use, both phones last two days or more. Reviewers say the Pro Max lasts two to three days. Our reader Martin, with the global version with a 10,000 mAh battery, still had 54% after 42 hours. We broke down his full experience in a separate article. For the Pro, reviews mention 8 to 10 hours of screen-on time. With heavy use, Pro Max gets you more like half a day extra—not a full day.
Global version with 10 000 mAh in tests
The 10,000 mAh version is not officially sold in Europe, so European editors haven’t tested it. But they did measure it on sites in India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, and Russia. In PCMark, which simulates everyday phone use, it lasted 24 to 30 hours. The highest result came from Indian MySmartPrice, up to 30:07 h. Russian kod.ru got 28:33 h, Malaysian HiTech Century 28:16 h, and Pokde 26:20 h.
European units with 9 210 mAh lasted in the same test 23 up to 30 hours. Romanian Mobilissimo measured 27:15 h, the Spanish Teknofilo 29:58 h. The ranges overlap because each editorial office tests under different brightness and a different refresh rate. So far, nobody has measured both versions side by side. The global version has about 790 mAh more, i.e. about 8,6 % more. In the same test, it should therefore last roughly about two hours longer. Compared to the Pro model, it has a battery that’s bigger by about 20 %.

The most insightful test is PhoneBuff’s channel on YouTube, which simulates a typical day with social media, email, and 16 hours with the display turned off. In it, the global Pro Max lasted 35 hours and 45 minutes. OPPO Reno 16 F took second place with 7,000 mAh and a time of 29:40 h; then came Galaxy A57 with 27:55 h, and iPhone 17 with 25:43 h. Japanese sinspace.jp used up 3% of the battery on YouTube in one hour and in Genshin Impact for half an hour at the highest graphics settings (6%). In a test by Singapore’s HardwareZone, the phone lost only 4% of battery in 12 hours in standby.
A bigger battery charges a bit more slowly. With the included 100 W charger, you’ll get a full charge in 60 to 96 minutes, depending on which outlet did the measurement. Filipino GadgetMatch measured 21% in 15 minutes, 38% in half an hour, and 100% in 1 h 24 min. The phone lasts two to three days, so you’ll still be charging it only once every few days.
Charging: 100 W saves you about a quarter of an hour
The Pro charges at 67 W, the Pro Max at 100 W. In GSMArena’s test, the Pro got a full charge in 80 minutes and after half an hour it had 42 %. The Pro Max was full in 61 minutes and after half an hour it had 57 %. Smartzone measured 80 compared to 63 minutes, so the difference of about a quarter of an hour is confirmed. Other outlets report that on the Pro Max it’s 64 to 91 minutes, depending on which charger they used.
With 100 W full power you’ll only reach it with an adapter that supports PPS. The European package doesn’t include a charger with any of the models, so you either need to have one or buy it for around 30 €. Global versions from Chinese stores include it in the box. Both phones support reverse charging via cable: Pro does 22,5 W and Pro Max does 27 W.

Performance: You’ll notice the difference in games, not in apps
Pro uses Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, while Pro Max uses a newer Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The processor in Pro Max is only slightly faster. In Geekbench 6, Smartzone measured 1 052 and 3 183 points versus 979 and 2 847 points, which is a lead of 7 to 12 %. In AnTuTu, both are around a million points. For social networks, the browser, or navigation, you won’t notice the difference.
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G · Source: mi.com
REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G · Source: mi.com
It’s different when it comes to graphics. In the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme test, the Pro Max scores 1 195 points, while the Pro scores 769, so the graphics performance is about 55% higher. The Pro Max also has faster LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage. But for a gaming phone, that’s not enough for either of them. Genshin Impact runs on the Pro Max at around 42 fps. Dutch Androidplanet and Czech Mobilizujeme also call out occasional system stuttering. During long loads, performance doesn’t drop—both phones held up with over 99 % in the performance stress test.
Cameras and video: The second reason to pay more
On paper, both have a 50 MP main camera with optical stabilization, but the sensors are completely different. The Pro has an ISOCELL JN with a 1/2.76-inch size and an f/1.8 aperture. The Pro Max has an 1/1.95-inch OmniVision sensor and an f/1.5 aperture. It’s about twice as large and the optics are brighter. You can see it in low light. Root-Nation, which shot with both at the same time, said the difference in dim light was very noticeable. Computerbild gave the Pro Max’s main camera a score of 1.6, while the Pro got 2.0 (in the German rating system, a lower score is better).
Notebookcheck, on the other hand, said the Pro camera is a step back compared to the previous Note 15 Pro with a 200MP sensor. Autofocus in the dark is uncertain and the zoom is weak. The ultra-wide 8MP camera is the same on both, and reviews criticize it consistently. The chip compared its shots to a blurry watercolor. Pro Max also has an additional 32MP selfie camera, while Pro only has 16MP.
The biggest difference, however, is in video. Pro records up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, both on the rear and front. Pro Max handles 4K at 30 frames per second with both cameras, plus Full HD at 60 frames per second. Even so, Pro Max isn’t really a phone meant for video. SmartWorld and Trusted Reviews report shake while walking, and Smartzone notes fluctuating autofocus in 4K.

Display, durability, and connectivity
Both models have the same display: a 6,83-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2 772 × 1 280 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, PWM dimming at 3 840 Hz, and peak brightness of 3 500 nits. Measurements confirm it. In Notebookcheck, Pro reached 4 034 nits on a small area, while Pro Max reached 3 550 nits in Computer Bild. With manual brightness adjustment, both range from 800 to 1 070 nits. Pro Max only supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G · Source: mi.com
Both models are equally good when it comes to durability: European versions have IP66/IP68, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a certified drop test from three meters. In the EPREL registry, both have the top A class in the repeated drop test. Weight is almost the same—223 g for Pro and 225.1 g for Pro Max. For connectivity, Pro noticeably saves: it has only Wi‑Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. Pro Max has Wi‑Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0. NFC, eSIM, and the infrared port are included on both.
Price: The difference today is around 80 €
The price gap between the models in the lowest versions was, at the time of writing this comparison, about 80 €. For that money, you get a better camera in Pro Max, a 4K video, and a larger battery. That’s why the more expensive Pro with lots of storage isn’t worth it.

In the global version, Pro is shipped by DHgate from stock in Spain along with a 67 W charger, which is backed by our fan’s real-world experience. Gshopper sells Pro Max in the global version with a 10,000 mAh battery and a 100 W charger included in the box. It ships from a China warehouse, and customs duty is already included in the price. For that one, just keep in mind that warranty claims go through the seller, not through Xiaomi’s authorized service in Slovakia.
Final verdict: Is it worth paying extra for Pro Max?
REDMI Note 17 Pro is for you if you want the longest battery life for the least money, and you use your phone mainly for communication, the internet, and navigation. Even with an 8,340 mAh battery, it’s among the phones with the longest battery life on the market—two days is no problem. 1080p videos and weaker Wi‑Fi shouldn’t bother you.
REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is for you if you record your kids or a vacation, shoot photos in the evening, and want a more modern setup. For an extra ~80 €, you get 4K video, a larger sensor with brighter optics, 3 to 5 more hours of battery life, faster charging, and Wi‑Fi 6. With that kind of difference, it’s worth it. If the gap grows beyond 150 €, take the Pro instead.
If battery life is your main priority, go for the global version with 10 000 mAh. You can’t buy it in a Slovak store, but compared to Pro you get a 20% larger battery, while the European Pro Max has only 10 % more. On top of that, you get a 100 W charger in the box and IP69K protection. Don’t buy either model if you want a phone for gaming or a great ultra-wide camera. At a similar price, POCO X8 Pro is a better fit—it’s also recommended by multiple reviews.
