How to choose?
When choosing a robot vacuum cleaner, it’s important to consider several key parameters right away. If you don’t want a noisy device that wanders around your place, it’s worth comparing suction power, battery runtime, connectivity with a mobile app, and additional features.
However, when choosing, you also need to consider our space, where the vacuum cleaner will primarily move. In this case, it’s important to take into account the vacuum’s height, as well as the height of any obstacles or door thresholds.
Another important element is the surface type. Do you only need the vacuum, or also a mop? The key is to evaluate the areas the vacuum should or shouldn’t enter, and then plan the cleaning in the mobile app accordingly.
We should assess whether we only need vacuuming, or also mopping—whether we have carpets or an area we don’t want the vacuum to go into.
Last but not least, the vacuum’s navigation capabilities matter too. The more advanced they are, the more precise and faster the vacuum is. Many of the features seen in the premium vacuums from the Xiaomi ecosystem are at a high level.
Dimensions
The vacuum features a round design with rounded sides; both have very similar dimensions. Viomi V3 measures 35.00 x 35.00 x 9.45 cm, while Roborock is a few millimeters taller. Its dimensions are 35.30 x 35.00 x 9.65 cm. Both vacuum cleaners have the same weight of 3,5 kilograms.
A standard design for robot vacuum cleaners isn’t an exception—just as usual, the highest point is the protrusion for the LDS laser system. This element determines the maximum height and whether—or not—the vacuum can pass under a sofa, an elevated dresser, or under the bed. With standard furniture, there shouldn’t be any problem.
Suction power
On the market, we already have vacuum cleaners that—thanks to their automated and robotic design—offer performance at the level of 2500 – 2600 Pa. One of them is the Viomi V3, which offers up to 2600 Pa. On the other hand, Roborock S5 Max provides weaker suction power in its lineup, rated at 2000 Pa.
However, a 2000 Pa rating also isn’t at all bad—it can be considered a sort of benchmark among robot vacuum cleaners. Even with this power level, the vacuum isn’t underpowered and is suitable for vacuuming and mopping floors, and it can handle carpets as well. Of course, the higher power of the first-mentioned model will show in the next chapter—in the negative sense of noise level. – noise.
Noise level
If you’re used to the noise of standard stick vacuum cleaners, the sound of these robot vacuums definitely won’t bother you. As a rule, these vacuums are quieter, but this factor is individual. With higher suction power, the Viomi V3 achieves noise levels around 75 dB, which is slightly higher compared to the Roborock model.
The lower suction power of the Roborock model also means lower noise, which in this case ranges around 60 – 65 dB. However, this is the maximum noise level the vacuum reaches at maximum power. In general, though, the vacuum’s mobile app lets you use multiple modes, which may be quieter.
Vacuuming vs mopping
Testing vacuuming didn’t show any big differences, even despite the different suction power. The vacuums cleaned the space very reliably and excellently removed dust and unpleasant dirt. There’s no shortage of app control, map creation, no-go zones, but also voice control.
When it comes to the mopping function, i.e., the mop, both vacuums offer it, including the option to choose different amounts of water used. Roborock provides, in addition to the standard dust bin, a secondary one for washing with a capacity of 290 ml. Viomi has a slight advantage here, as it offers a separate water tank of up to 550 ml.
A larger tank is usually unnecessarily big, however it’s important to mention Viomi’s advantage. The vacuum labeled Viomi V3 also has another advantage that the competing Roborock doesn’t offer: cleaning in the shape of the letter Y. This is cleaning with slower movements, which is more time-consuming but, at the same time, more thorough.
Battery and runtime
Similar values can also be seen for the battery. In this case, however, the Roborock S5 Max. model offers a slight advantage. It has a battery capacity of up to 5200 mAh, and the runtime is around 180 minutes of use. On the other hand, we have the Viomi V3, model, which offers a slightly weaker battery capacity of 4900 mAh.
It also has a weaker runtime of 150 minutes of use. The difference isn’t huge, but longer runtime will be especially appreciated by users with larger apartments or family houses that have more area to clean.
Both vacuums support the return-to-charging function, and then after charging they continue cleaning from the spot where they left off.
Price
The category of premium vacuums, which are literally packed with functions in a mobile app or controlled via voice through a smart assistant, is also characterized by a higher selling price. In this case, we’re seeing a similar scenario, with availability of the vacuums in a nearby, Czech or European warehouse.
