Big surprise a few weeks after the 15T series launch! First details on Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro: The reveal will be sooner than you think

Just a few weeks after the unveiling of Xiaomi 15T and Xiaomi 15T Pro, the first leaked information about their successors started spreading across the internet. And not just any leaks. Xiaomi apparently decided to skip the entire one-number generation mark, and instead of the expected 16, it will target the number 17, just like with the flagship series Xiaomi 17.

So in the future, we can expect models called Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro — not that far off. It’s possible that the news will be announced as early as February 2026.

Xiaomi again skips an entire generation number

It’s not the first time Xiaomi has skipped a number in the naming of its models. We’ve already seen the same move when going from Xiaomi 13 straight to 14, and later from Xiaomi 15 to 17. This step may seem strange, but it’s likely a strategic decision — maybe due to Chinese superstitions.

Even though the 16 number has no special meaning in this context, Chinese manufacturers love “lucky” numbers, and the 13-one symbolizes bad luck. It’s also possible they want to match the numbering with the current iPhones.

What grabs even more attention, though, is the possible launch date. Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro could, according to information from the GSMA IMEI database, be officially released as early as February 2026 — just four months after the 15T and 15T Pro models hit the market. If that’s confirmed, it would be one of the shortest cycles between generations within the T-series.

Leaks from lists in the IMEI database say it clearly. At least four model names have appeared: 2602DPT53G and 2602DPT53I, which likely belong to Xiaomi 17T for the global market (“G”) and India (“I”). The other two codes — 2602EPTC0G and 2602EPTC0R — are tied to the 17T Pro model.

Even Xiaomi’s naming system revealed internal names for us — “chargall” for 17T and “warhol” for 17T Pro. The internal code “P12A” was identified as Xiaomi 17T, but previous reports also listed “P21A”, so nothing is fully unambiguous yet.

One thing, however, is certain — Xiaomi wants to push this generation forward significantly. The base model is expected to get a new chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 8500, and the version with the “Pro” label should be even more powerful, the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. Both phones will run on the new custom UI HyperOS 3. The return of the T-series to the Indian market is also interesting — it last appeared here with the Xiaomi 11T Pro.

Design differences and separation from Redmi

An interesting detail is the increasingly clear separation of Xiaomi devices labeled “T” from Chinese models like the Redmi K Ultra. While in the past Redmi and Xiaomi models often looked suspiciously similar, now their design and technical directions are clearly diverging. For example, Xiaomi 15T has a different build and camera module than its Chinese “twin” Redmi K80 Ultra.

This could mean that Xiaomi finally wants to give the models in the “T” lineup their own identity, rather than just being a global name for the Chinese Redmi models. Although we don’t yet know the exact specs, expectations are once again relatively high.

Xiaomi 15T has set the bar quite high—it comes with an AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 50 MPx cameras (main and telephoto with 2× zoom), plus a large battery with a capacity of 5 500 mAh, 67 W charging, and also IP68 water and dust resistance.

With the upcoming MWC 2026, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Xiaomi will want to impress even before this major event. And if they manage to do it by unveiling a new generation, the competition will have its work cut out. For now, though, we’re still left with leaks and speculation.
