More and more leaks are starting to appear around the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series, and it seems the Chinese manufacturer is preparing one of the biggest changes in its flagship lineup in recent years. The latest reports suggest not only an earlier debut of the global series, but also a significant change in the naming of its top model. If these reports are confirmed, the iconic Ultra model could end after years—and be replaced entirely by a brand-new Pro Max variant.
Updated: Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have already been officially unveiled — you can find their final specs and prices in our article from the launch.
Debut as early as autumn, with a much earlier global launch
According to several reliable sources, the Xiaomi 18 series will be unveiled in China as early as September 2026. That would follow the company’s traditional schedule, where it introduces its flagship smartphones right at the start of autumn—after launching a new processor from Qualcomm.

However, the situation around the global release is more interesting. While previous flagship devices Xiaomi have been coming to European markets only during the first quarter of the following year, current leaks suggest that Xiaomi wants to shorten that timeframe significantly. Some markets could see the news as early as December—meaning the fastest global launch of the Xiaomi flagship series in years.
End of the Ultra model? Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is set to replace it
The biggest new development is the rumored change to the lineup itself. According to the latest information, the series will include models Xiaomi 18, Xiaomi 18 Pro, and a completely new Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. The Xiaomi 18 Ultra model, meanwhile, reportedly won’t go on sale at all.

It’s not clear yet whether it’s only a name change or whether the manufacturer is also preparing a different strategy. Pro Max should take the spot of the brand’s absolute flagship and deliver the best photo setup, the display, and the most modern hardware. According to the leaks, it could also be available in limited quantities—similar to how Ultra models were distributed up to now.
The battery will only grow slightly, but battery life could be significantly better
New information has also surfaced about the base model Xiaomi 18. For the Chinese market, it’s said to get a battery with a capacity of around 7200 mAh. At first glance, that doesn’t seem like a big jump, since the Chinese version of Xiaomi 17 offered 7000 mAh.

What matters more, though, is that Xiaomi will continue using a modern silicon-carbon battery, which allows for higher capacity without increasing the phone’s size. Battery life should also improve thanks to the upcoming processor Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 made using 2 nm technology. The combination of a more power-efficient chip and a larger battery could deliver up to two days of usage on a single charge under typical use.
A compact flagship with an improved camera
So far leaks suggest that Xiaomi will stick to the philosophy of a compact flagship smartphone. Xiaomi 18 is said to come with an approximately 6.4-inch flat display with 2K resolution and very thin bezels. Performance will be handled by the already mentioned Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

A big highlight is also expected to be the camera setup. There are talks of a triple-camera system including a 200 MPx telephoto lens with a periscope design. If this information checks out, it would be the first base model in the Xiaomi series to get a periscope telephoto lens—something that has previously been exclusive to Ultra models.
Xiaomi wants to introduce a whole ecosystem
In addition, December shouldn’t, according to backstage information, be limited to smartphones. Xiaomi is said to be preparing a large-scale showcase of other smart home products, wearable electronics, and accessories. The goal is to present the entire ecosystem of devices that work together with the new generation of smartphones.
However, it’s important to remember that all the information mentioned so far comes from leaks and backstage sources. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed it, so you should take it with a reasonable pinch of salt.
