Xiaomi has officially announced the end of security updates for several popular smartphones. This move will affect thousands of users who still rely on these models. The discontinued models include, in particular, phones from the Redmi and POCO series, which have reached the end of their lifecycle (EOL – End of Life).
The popular “Ultra” model from Xiaomi is also ending
On the list of devices that will no longer receive security patches, you can find:
- Redmi 10C and Redmi 10 — discontinued with MIUI 14 on Android 13
- Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11E Pro, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G and POCO X4 Pro 5G — ending with HyperOS 1 and Android 13
- Xiaomi 12X — a compact model from the Xiaomi 12 lineup, which ends support with HyperOS 1 and Android 13
- Xiaomi 12 Lite — it won’t be updated to HyperOS 2, even though an update was initially expected
Of course, you’ll still be able to use your phone, but you won’t get any security fixes. If you’re an Android enthusiast, you can solve this, for example, by installing an alternative ROM. Most likely, you’ll be able to keep using the device comfortably without noticing anything negative.

A surprising exception is the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. Even though it won’t receive new security patches in the future, an update to HyperOS 2 is expected. It will be based on the older operating system Android 14, not Android 15. This is a flagship from 2021 that many of our fans have.
It still offers powerful hardware, solid photo capabilities, and an unusual, unique design with a tiny display on the back. This move suggests that Xiaomi prioritizes extended software support for its premium devices, while the mid-range and cheaper models lose support faster. However, this may not apply to future—or even current—models, for example Redmi Note 14 (4G) will get up to 6 years of software support.

Owners of devices that will no longer be updated should be more cautious when installing apps from unknown sources and should ensure better protection for their data. Of course, eventually you’ll also be able to switch to a newer device that offers longer software support. But if your phone’s hardware isn’t limiting you yet, the smartphone will still serve you.
