If you’ve ever said that Apple AirTag is awesome, but you don’t want to pay the premium price or you live in the Android world, Xiaomi has good news for you. According to fresh leaks, the Chinese giant is preparing to introduce Xiaomi Tag – a tracking key fob that could finally bring precise item tracking even beyond the Apple ecosystem, and at a noticeably lower price.

The information comes from the well-known Weibo leaker Repeater 002, who claims that Xiaomi already has the device in the final stage of preparations. The official reveal could happen December 26, 2025 during a big event, where the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the new Watch 5, and Buds 6 are also expected to debut.

What is Xiaomi Tag and why should you care

For now, we mainly know the basics, but they sound very promising. The name „Xiaomi Tag“ is said to be final, and more and more hints point to support for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. That’s exactly the hardware that enables extremely precise short-range finding—just like you know from the AirTag with Precision Finding.

In practice, that means that when you’re looking for your keys in the apartment, you won’t just wander around by a map—you’ll get literal arrow and distance guidance from your phone, down to the centimeter. And that’s the difference that turns a regular Bluetooth tracker into a genuinely useful gadget.

Google Find My Device as a secret weapon

An even bigger deal is the integration with the Google Find My Device network. Xiaomi Tag should work similarly to solutions from Chipolo, Pebblebee, or Motorola Moto Tag. In other words, when your tag gets lost, thousands—up to millions—of nearby Android phones will help you find it by anonymously and securely sending its location to the cloud.

So even if your tracker isn’t directly connected to the internet, you still have a chance to find it. This was Apple’s biggest advantage for years, and now the Android ecosystem is finally catching up. MiLi MiTag Go, which belongs to Xiaomi’s sub-brand, was even the subject of our testing.

Even though competition already exists, it’s definitely not cheap. Moto Tag and the Pebblebee Clip are commonly sold for more than $25 today, and for many people that’s still a psychological threshold. Xiaomi, however, is known for being able to cut the price aggressively. If they manage to offer UWB, full support for the Google network, and still keep the price below the competition, it could become a mass-market hit.
