Xiaomi didn’t just showcase extremely powerful SUV Xiaomi YU7 GT with almost 1000 hp during the big event Human x Car x Home. The Chinese giant also unveiled a new base version of its electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition, which has a very clear goal—an even more aggressive push to challenge Tesla Model Y’s dominance in the domestic Chinese market.

The new model arrives with a price of 233,500 Chinese yuan, which is roughly 29,600 euros. Xiaomi openly compares the new model to the Tesla Model Y RWD. And it has to be said that on paper it doesn’t look great for Tesla. Xiaomi offers a longer range, larger car dimensions, and at the same time a noticeably lower price.
Xiaomi responds to the problem of the original YU7 model
Lei Jun, during the presentation, admitted that the original base model YU7 was indeed very attractive, but its price was too close to the Tesla Model Y. The difference was only about 10,000 yuan, which, according to Xiaomi, wasn’t enough to create meaningful price pressure.
That’s why a new version was created—the “True Standard Edition”, which is about 30,000 yuan cheaper than the base Tesla Model Y in China. At the same time, it retains very interesting specs, including a range of 643 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. Tesla Model Y RWD, meanwhile, offers 593 km CLTC.
A large SUV with rear-wheel drive
The new Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition remains a large SUV in the D/E segment. The body measures 4999 mm in length, the width reaches 1996 mm, and the wheelbase is a straight 3000 mm. So, the dimensions stay the same as in the pricier versions.
Power comes from a single electric motor mounted at the rear, delivering a maximum output of 235 kW, or roughly 315 horsepower. Xiaomi uses an LFP battery from CATL, which is expected to be more cost-effective and also more durable in terms of lifespan.

| Drive system | Rear-wheel drive / 1 electric motor |
| Power | 235 kW / roughly 315 horsepower |
| Battery | LFP from CATL |
| CLTC range | 643 km |
| Vehicle length | 4999 mm |
| Width | 1996 mm |
| Height | 1600 – 1608 mm |
| Wheelbase | 3000 mm |
| Weight | 2200 kg |
| Wheels | new 20-inch wheel designs |
Lighter construction and new wheel designs
The new base version is also lighter than the original model. Xiaomi reduced the weight by 115 kg, meaning the new model weighs 2200 kg instead of the original 2315 kg. This can also have a positive effect on efficiency and energy consumption.
The manufacturer also unveiled new 20-inch wheel discs with fairly unusual designs that Xiaomi describes as “rice-shaped” and “plum blossom”. The automaker clearly wants to appeal to younger customers too—those who care about personalization and a more modern look.
The YU7 model has quickly become one of the most talked-about electric vehicles in China since its launch. At its 2025 premiere, Xiaomi recorded more than 200,000 orders in the first three minutes and over 240,000 confirmed orders in less than 18 hours.
However, the huge interest also brought long waiting times, nearly reaching one year. Now that Xiaomi is gradually stabilizing production and deliveries, sales are slipping slightly. A more affordable Standard Edition could be the way to give sales a strong boost again and attract customers who have been considering the electric Tesla Model Y up to now.
A potential European price for the Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition
Similarly to the Xiaomi YU7 GT version, a simple conversion of the Chinese price would not reflect the reality of the European market. After adding shipping, customs duty, EU anti-subsidy tariffs, and VAT, the final price would likely rise significantly.
Even so, Xiaomi could remain highly competitive. If the YU7 Standard Edition were to come to Europe for a price of roughly €50 to €60 thousand, it could still be an interesting competitor to the Tesla Model Y or other electric SUVs from more premium brands.
