Xiaomi Youpin’s platform has expanded its sportswear range with new sneakers FREETIE Classic Sports Shoes 4. This is already the fourth generation of lightweight sports footwear, combining a breathable knitted upper, a soft foam midsole, and reinforcing elements for a more stable stride.

The sneakers aren’t directly made by the Xiaomi brand; they come from the partner brand FREETIE, part of the extensive Xiaomi Youpin ecosystem.

Soft midsole with “popcorn” foam

One of the biggest upgrades in the fourth generation is a new midsole using a lightweight foam technology the manufacturer calls “popcorn foam”. The material is designed to create a soft and flexible feel on impact, absorb shocks, and then return some of the energy to the next step. That’s why the sneakers should be suitable for everyday walking, travel, and less demanding sports activities.

The manufacturer also focused on reducing total weight. In size 42, according to data from Xiaomi Youpin, the weight is about 247.3 grams, with manufacturing tolerance of roughly 5 grams. This is the weight of a single shoe, not the whole pair. The low weight can be a noticeable advantage—especially if you wear them all day.

One-piece 4D knitted upper

The sneaker upper is made as a single piece using highly elastic 4D knitted textile. The material includes small ventilation openings and different knit structures, intended to improve air circulation. Elastic fibers can adapt to the shape of your foot and also help keep the shoe on your foot without unnecessary hard pressure.

Seamless construction reduces the number of spots that could rub the foot during longer walks. The breathable design should also help on warmer days or during active movement. However, FREETIE doesn’t position this model as professional running footwear—more like universal sports sneakers for everyday use.

Flexible foot-support reinforcement system

On the sides of the shoe, there’s a so-called flexible fishbone reinforcement system. The manufacturer used eight strips of durable material, creating a wraparound reinforcing structure. When you pull the laces, the pressure is distributed around the middle part of the foot, which is meant to improve stability while walking and moving side to side.

In the middle part of the outsole, there’s also a separate TPU anti-twist component. It limits excessive deformation of the shoe and helps maintain a more stable position of the foot. The combination of soft foam and a firmer TPU element is intended to strike a balance between comfortable cushioning and the necessary support.

Separated heel lining for easier wearing

An interesting feature is the separate inner lining in the heel area. It is not firmly connected to the entire knitted upper, which allows it to wrap around the back of the foot better. The manufacturer says this design increases the lining’s contact area and creates a more comfortable wearing feel.

This solution is also meant to make putting them on and taking them off easier. There is a textile pull tab on the heel that you can easily grab when putting them on. Reflective elements are used on the tab and the laces, so the sneakers will be more visible under vehicle headlights or street lighting.

Non-slip outsole and washable

The lower part uses a rubber outsole with several groups of Z-shaped tread patterns. Differently oriented grooves are meant to improve grip when moving forward and sideways. In the middle section, the outsole is reinforced with TPU, which increases stability while also protecting the softer midsole from excessive twisting.

According to the manufacturer, the entire sneakers can be machine washed at a normal temperature. Tumble drying is not supported, so let them air dry naturally. For more frequent washing, we recommend using a gentle cycle, removing the insoles, and placing the shoes in a protective laundry bag.

How do you choose the right European size?

FREETIE Classic Sports Shoes 4 are available according to the current size chart in men’s sizes from EU 40 to EU 44. When choosing, don’t rely only on the size you usually wear in European brands. The most accurate method is to stand with your heel against a wall, measure the distance to your longest toe, and compare the result with the recommended range.

If you are exactly between two sizes or have wider feet, the larger option will be the safer choice. The size range is fairly limited, and users with feet longer than 270 mm will not find the current version suitable.
