System and security updates are an essential part of a smooth user experience in the world of Android smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi knows that too, and it’s expanding software support for its more affordable devices under the Redmi brand.
Redmi Note 13: Expansion of system and security update support
Redmi Note 13 is a new series of mid-range smartphones that was already unveiled earlier in the domestic, meaning Chinese, market. Now, however, preparations are also underway for a new version for distribution outside China. Specifically, this is the Indian variant, which will be presented on January 4, 2024.
The series will consist of three smartphones. Specifically, the base model Redmi Note 13, as well as Redmi Note 13 Pro, and also a very well-equipped Redmi Note 13 Pro+. But before the devices go on the market, we also learned interesting information about the manufacturer’s software support.
Details were shared by a well-known informant nicknamed Sudhanshu Ambhore. According to available information, the Indian series of Redmi Note 13 devices will arrive with the operating system pre-installed Android 13. It should be based on a graphics interface in the version MIUI 14.
Extended update support is also expected. Specifically, this means three years of Android OS updates—up to the version labeled Android 16. In addition, these devices will support up to four years of security fixes for various vulnerabilities in the system.
Bad news about HyperOS
That represents a significant expansion compared to the standard two-year support. It’s kind of the average for this price segment, which also applies to Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices in the mid-range and upper mid-range.
Despite the positive news about software support, we also have one disappointing piece of information. A leak says the Redmi Note 13 series won’t get an update to the new operating system HyperOS from Xiaomi anytime soon. Whether that changes in the future is something we don’t know yet.
