Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G and realme 16 Pro+ 5G are among the most interesting mid-range smartphones of 2026, and also two very direct competitors. On paper they may look similar, but on a closer look the differences are huge. That’s why we prepared our by far most extensive comparison Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G vs realme 16 Pro+ 5G, which isn’t based on a simple spec-by-spec comparison.
We processed more than 100 sources from all over the world: real lab tests, benchmarks, photo samples, display measurements, battery tests, and reviewers’ hands-on experience from Europe, Asia, or overseas.
Both models have already become significantly cheaper
Since launch, both smartphones have moved noticeably in price. Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G started in Europe at roughly 499 €, while realme 16 Pro+ 5G, depending on the market, was roughly from 530 to 600 €. During our large research, however, Redmi could be found for about 290 to 340 €, and realme for about 300 to 400 €. With a similar price, as the full comparison will show, realme delivers significantly more hardware.

How did we work on this comparison?
We didn’t want to create another article where we simply place two spec lists side by side and automatically declare the winner based on the higher number. That’s why, for every important area, we looked for measured results from multiple independent sources. For performance, for example, we compared results from GSMArena, Notebookcheck, MySmartPrice, 91mobiles, PhoneArena, and other media outlets. For the battery, we had four directly comparable standardized tests, as well as data from the European energy label.
We put a lot of care into the cameras. The European Redmi Note 15 Pro+ doesn’t have a 50MP 2.5x periscope telephoto lens that you can find in the Chinese version. Instead, the global model uses a 200MP main sensor and only an 8MP ultrawide camera. That’s why we completely ruled out Chinese camera tests for Redmi. realme 16 Pro+ uses the same camera setup across all relevant regions, so its results could be compared more reliably.

Quick verdict: realme wins, but Redmi has a few strong trump cards
If we have to summarize hundreds of results even before the detailed breakdown, the overall winner of our comparison is realme 16 Pro+ 5G. It wins especially in the areas you notice every single day: noticeably higher performance, faster storage, longer battery life, a more complete camera system, and a more modern software foundation. The biggest trump card is the real 3.5x periscope telephoto lens—Redmi simply has no hardware answer for it.
Redmi Note 15 Pro+ is definitely not a loser in everything, though. It has better speakers, a more durable build, significantly better video stabilization, stays cooler under load, and its display is also very interesting in terms of color accuracy and PWM dimming. If you’re sensitive to flicker on OLED displays or you want a flat panel, Redmi might actually be the smarter choice.
Pros of Redmi Note 15 Pro+: a high-quality, accurate display / very good PWM control / excellent speakers / high durability / better video stabilization / lower temperatures / very fast charging with the original adapter.
Cons of Redmi Note 15 Pro+: no telephoto lens / much weaker GPU / UFS 2.2 / weaker multitasking / shorter battery life / only 4K30 video / Android 15 at launch / lots of bloatware.
Pros of realme 16 Pro+: great 3.5x periscope / better main camera / excellent portraits / higher-quality selfies / about 13% better battery life / dramatically higher GPU performance / UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5X / Android 16 / longer software support.
Cons of realme 16 Pro+: higher temperatures / worse speakers / weaker video stabilization / 144 Hz mode is used very little / question mark over PWM control / worse drop durability / reported freezing of the camera app.

Display: realme is brighter, Redmi is more convincing technically
At first glance, realme could win. Its 6,8-inch OLED panel reached 1794 nits of automatic brightness in a comparable GSMArena test, while Redmi reached 1509 nits.
In manual mode, GSMArena measured 936 vs 598 nits, even though with realme there’s a big variance between labs. Redmi also suffers from an annoying issue where, after longer exposure to strong sun, brightness can drop to below roughly 990 nits.

But Redmi strikes back with the quality of the panel itself. Notebookcheck measured a color deviation of ΔE 1,7 versus 2,29 for realme, better uniformity, and even 99,8% sRGB coverage. PWM is key here. In Redmi’s case, the lab really recorded a high-frequency component of about 3846 Hz in combination with DC dimming.
In realme, marketing claims of 4608 Hz couldn’t be verified, and the measured base frequency was only 90 Hz. For users sensitive to OLED flicker, this is an extremely important difference. Also, those 144 Hz only work in a few apps and games, so it isn’t a big advantage in everyday use. Overall, Redmi narrowly wins.

Performance: realme literally outclasses Redmi here
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 in realme is a completely different performance tier compared to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 in Redmi. In Geekbench 6, realme achieves roughly 25% to 33% higher multi-core performance. The graphics gap is even more dramatic. Five independent sources measured around 2100 points for realme and only about 1110 points for Redmi in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme. So we’re talking about a difference of roughly 88 to 90% in GPU performance.
Another big problem with Redmi is the combination of LPDDR4X memory and an older UFS 2.2 storage. realme has LPDDR5X and UFS 3.1. Sequential read speeds were around 2083 MB/s vs 1095 MB/s, and in PCMark Android Storage, realme scored 96 449 points compared to 19 815 points for Redmi.
That’s nearly a five-fold difference. However, Redmi still stays significantly cooler. In various tests it hovered around the mid 30 °C, while realme, under heavy load, went above 40 °C and one test measured as high as 45,9 °C. The more powerful phone is, without question, realme—while Redmi is simply more comfortable in terms of temperatures.

Gaming: realme has a huge extra buffer
The difference from synthetic tests also shows up in games. In the directly comparable MySmartPrice test, Redmi hit roughly 59,6 fps in BGMI, while realme reached 88,3 fps. Redmi handles popular titles like PUBG, Mobile Legends, and Wild Rift quite well, but on the most demanding games Adreno 810 falls off significantly. Wuthering Waves was only around 21 to 35 fps, and Zenless Zone Zero was practically unplayable in one test at 8 to 20 fps.
In supported titles, realme can use 90 fps modes, and its graphics headroom is much larger. An interesting anomaly is Genshin Impact, where in one directly comparable test Redmi reached 32,3 fps and realme 29,9 fps. However, that’s the exception—not the overall performance picture. If you’re buying a smartphone mainly for gaming, realme is the clear choice—just be prepared for higher body temperatures.
Design and durability: Redmi is built tougher
Here, the order flips. The European energy label gives Redmi a drop-resistance class A, which corresponds to 270 drops in the test protocol. realme has class C with 90 drops. Redmi also uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and passed real bend tests from JerryRigEverything with virtually no damage. Xiaomi also claims an SGS-certified drop from a height of 2,5 meters.
On the other hand, realme is slightly lighter and narrower, so it can be held more comfortably. Its eco-leather back has received very good ratings, but for durability there are simply no independent physical tests. There’s also an interesting difference in haptics. Redmi uses a verified linear X-axis motor, while some reviewers described realme’s vibrations as surprisingly cheap and loud. If your phone often ends up on the floor, Redmi is the safer bet.

Battery: four different tests and always the same winner
realme has a 7000 mAh battery versus 6500 mAh on Redmi, and this time the higher capacity also showed in practice. The European energy label lists roughly 68 hours and 48 minutes versus 60 hours and 47 minutes. GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of 18:18 h versus 16:04 h, French Labo Fnac 20:54 h versus 18:33 h, and PCMark from 91mobiles roughly 19 versus 14,2 hours.
The three best comparable methodologies agree very closely: realme lasts about 13% longer. In practice, that’s roughly two to two and a half hours more with active use. Both phones can be considered realistically two-day devices. realme also has 1300 declared charging cycles versus 1000 on Redmi and supports bypass charging, which may be interesting especially for gaming.
Charging: watch out for one very important catch
Redmi supports 100 W charging, and with the original Xiaomi adapter it’s truly a big advantage. GSMArena measured 45 % in 15 minutes, 78 % in 30 minutes, and a full charge in about 48 minutes. With the 80 W adapter, realme managed 37 % in 15 minutes, 62 % in 30 minutes, and about 100 % in 64 minutes.
The problem is that neither phone includes a charging adapter in the European box. Redmi also needs original Xiaomi accessories if you want to get full advantage from it. With a generic USB-PD charger, the time can stretch to about an hour, and with an unsuitable adapter it can be significantly longer. realme is much more tolerant with a 55 W PD-PPS adapter, and even with such an adapter it reached 61% in 30 minutes. So without an original Xiaomi charger, the difference is much smaller.

Cameras: the biggest reason realme wins
Both phones have a 200 MPx main camera with optical stabilization, but the resolution alone doesn’t say much about picture quality. Redmi uses a physically larger 1/1.4″ sensor, while realme uses 1/1.56″. Still, a direct comparison by 91mobiles and most independent reviews clearly favor realme in daylight. It preserves more natural details and textures and has a better dynamic range. Redmi tends to over-sharpen photos—high-contrast scenes show blown-out highlights and overly dark shadows.
The biggest difference, however, is the telephoto lens. The European Redmi Note 15 Pro+ has none. It uses only a crop from the main 200 MPx sensor, and at higher zoom levels the quality drops quickly. realme has a true 50 MPx periscope telephoto lens with 3.5× optical zoom, an 80 mm focal length, and OIS. Very good results it can deliver at around up to 7×, and the zoom is often still usable at 10×. This is, in our opinion, the biggest practical functional difference between the phones.

Portraits, selfies, and the ultra-wide camera
realme also wins clearly when shooting people. It offers five portrait focal lengths, and thanks to the combination of the main camera and the telephoto lens, it can create a more natural face perspective and better subject separation from the background. The main advantage is the telephoto lens’s 80 mm focal length, which is much more suitable for portraits than Redmi’s digital crop. The only direct comparison also marked realme’s portraits as better.

On selfies, the difference is again significant. realme has a 50 MPx front camera and can handle up to 4K video at 60 fps. Redmi offers 32 MPx and tops out at 1080p/60 fps, while GSMArena even criticized an improperly set fixed-focus distance. Ultra-wide cameras, on the other hand, are the weak point of both devices. They have only 8 MPx and are very poor at night. According to a single direct comparison, Redmi is slightly sharper, while realme at least has autofocus and can use it for close-up shots.

Video: realme is technically better—Redmi is more stable
In video, there’s no simple winner. realme can record 4K at 60 fps with the main camera and the telephoto lens, and even 4K/60 fps with the front camera. It supports HDR video and offers a much wider range of focal lengths. Redmi ends with the main camera at 4K/30 fps and the selfie camera at 1080p/60 fps.
However, Redmi stabilizes the image significantly better. GSMArena called its stabilization excellent, while it criticized realme for a nervous recording from both the main camera and the telephoto lens. So if you often record video while walking, Redmi may paradoxically be the better camera. If you want 4K60, HDR, a telephoto lens, and better selfie video, realme wins.

Speakers: a clear win for Redmi
GSMArena measured Redmi at −25,8 LUFS, and after enabling amplification even at −20,1 LUFS, with an Excellent rating. realme ended at −26,3 LUFS and a Good rating. It’s not just about loudness, though. Redmi has a fuller sound and more prominent bass, while realme was repeatedly criticized for a flatter presentation and vocals that feel more distant.
Redmi also supports Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Wireless, aptX Adaptive, LDAC, and LHDC 5.0. Together with the Dolby Vision display, it’s therefore the better device for watching movies and consuming multimedia without an external speaker or headphones.
Software: realme is already about a generation ahead
Redmi launched with Android 15 and HyperOS 2 at a time when Android 16 already existed. realme 16 Pro+ started the other way around—right away with Android 16 and realme UI 7. Europe-based realme has five major Android updates and six years of security updates promised. Redmi has four major updates and the same six years of security patches.
In the meantime, Redmi’s Android 16 received an update, and the European version switched to HyperOS 3 already by the end of February 2026, so that gap has narrowed. However, realme still stays one support generation ahead. None of the manufacturers really deserve praise for bloatware.
For Redmi, reviewers found more than 20 apps to uninstall and system ads, while the European realme included a lot of third-party apps and ads appeared in notifications or search as well.

Wi-Fi, NFC, eSIM and other connectivity
For Slovak users, both phones offer all the essential 4G and 5G bands, NFC, eSIM, dual SIM, and an infrared port. Redmi has a small advantage with support for Wi-Fi 6E, while realme ends at Wi-Fi 6. If at home you use a 6 GHz router, that can be a real difference. Notebookcheck measured roughly 949 Mbps for sending and 854 Mbps for receiving on Redmi.
Both phones, however, use only USB 2.0, which is disappointing for devices in this price category. Redmi doesn’t support DisplayPort video-out, and such support also wasn’t confirmed for realme. Neither model has a microSD slot or a 3,5 mm headphone jack.
What to watch out for on both phones?
With Redmi, criticism came up repeatedly about the sustainable brightness being too low in direct sunlight, a slower system, UFS 2.2, and a lot of bloatware. The hardware limitation remains the weaker Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. The camera also isn’t as universal as the 200 Mpx spec might suggest, because the European version completely lacks the telephoto lens.
With realme, expect higher temperatures, average speakers, and weaker video stabilization. It’s also interesting that, according to several tests, the declared 144 Hz only turns on very rarely. Two European reviews from July 2026 also reported freezing or the camera app crashing after longer use and switching between lenses. We can’t confirm yet whether this is an extended issue, so we wouldn’t treat it as a reason to automatically rule out the phone—but it’s good to know about it.

Which one would we choose?
At a similar price, from this pair we’d pick realme 16 Pro+ 5G. Its lead isn’t based on just one benchmark. It wins in four areas that, in our view, affect everyday use the most: cameras, performance, battery life, and the software foundation. In particular, the combination of a 3.5× periscope, about 90% higher GPU performance, UFS 3.1, and roughly 13% better battery life is very strong.

Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G still makes a lot of sense if you can find it roughly 60 to 70 € cheaper, or if you have specific priorities. It’s tougher, stays cooler, has noticeably better speakers, a flat display, top-tier video stabilization, and its PWM dimming looks—based on available lab data—significantly better. For people sensitive to flicker on OLED displays, we’d therefore choose Redmi over realme even despite realme’s overall win.
