Design differences
In terms of design, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9S are completely the same. The cheapest Redmi Note 9 differs from them—in dimensions and weight: it’s lighter by 10 grams and has a smaller display.
Models Note 9 Pro and Note 9S have the camera cutout placed in the middle of the display, while the cheapest Note 9 has it on the left side. The back cameras also differ slightly in design, but overall they look very similar.
Different cameras
Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a primary camera sensor with a resolution of 64 MPx. It’s a Samsung GW1 sensor with a size of 1/1.7 inch, a focal aperture of f/1.89, and a pixel size of 1.6 μm / 4-in-1 Super Pixel. This model also supports creating RAW photos, which only this one received.
Redmi Note 9S has a Samsung GM2 primary sensor with a resolution of 48 MPx. This sensor has a size of 1/2.25 inch, a focal aperture of f/1.79, and a pixel size of 1.6 μm / 4-in-1 Super Pixel.
On the Note 9 model, the main camera specs are very similar—except the exact sensor isn’t known. However, it’s probably the exact same camera as in the 9S model.
The other three rear camera sensors remained unchanged for Note 9 Pro and Note 9S, and their setup is as follows:
- 8 MPx ultrawide sensor with a 119° field of view, f/2.2, 1.12μm
- 5 MPx macro sensor: photos from 2 cm to 10 cm, 1.12μm
- 2 MPx depth-of-field sensor, 1.75μm
The cheapest Note 9 has a different 2 MPx macro sensor. It records video in the maximum quality of 1080p and also has only a 13 MPx selfie camera compared to the 16 MPx sensors in the better siblings.
Different memory capacities and processors
All smartphones can be obtained in the same memory configuration, but there are also small differences. Redmi Note 9 in the base version starts at 3 GB RAM, and there’s also a version with 4 GB RAM. The 9S model starts at 4 GB RAM, and a version with 6 GB RAM is also available. The best Note 9 Pro has a version with only 6 GB RAM.
All three models can be bought in 64 GB as well as 128 GB variants. In all cases, you can expand the storage using a separate microSD card slot. It can be up to 512 GB.
In terms of performance, the Note 9 Pro and Note 9S phones are completely the same, since both include the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor with a 8nm manufacturing process. Redmi Note 9, on the other hand, uses a MediaTek chipset—specifically Helio G85.
Different charging speed
In this category as well, the Pro model has a slight advantage thanks to fast charging power up to 30 W. With this spec, it also outpaced last year’s flagship models from the Xiaomi group, which is commendable in this class of smartphones.
Note 9S and Note 9 also support fast charging, but with only 18 W, which we consider a weaker standard by today’s standards. All three smartphones then offer a battery with a large capacity of 5 020 mAh.

Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Redmi Note 9S vs Redmi Note 9: Which one should you choose?
This year’s smartphones from the Redmi Note series 9 pleasantly surprised us. We liked the fairly solid mid-range specs combined with low prices. We’re especially happy about the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, and it’s the very first time the Redmi Note series has received 7 a. line of chips from this brand.
We were slightly disappointed by the absence of the NFC module for the 9S model, but the cheapest Redmi Note 9 and the Pro model have it.

If you’re among the more demanding users for photography and want to invest as much as possible up to 250 €, then the Redmi Note 9 Pro model with a 64 MPx camera is for you. If, on the other hand, you’re happy with decent performance and a very long battery life up to 200 €, go for the Note 9S model.
And finally, if you want the best for about 150 €, here’s the most affordable Redmi Note 9, which offers a large display, a big battery, and enough performance for everyday use.
